Fall is here and that means it’s just the right time to upgrade and experiment with our outfits, as we are blasted with images of new trends on every social media platform that we know. It’s great to take inspiration, but always keep in mind to choose what you think would look and work best for you. In order to make your work a little easier, here are some tricks and tips on how to style your outfits this fall, inspired by the looks seen on the runway and adapted so you can wear them in an everyday setting:
1. EXPERIMENT WITH THE PEARL TREND
From t-shirts and jumpers to jeans and boots, the look of having white pearls and small rhinestones attached to items of clothing and accessories seems to have risen in popularity. It adds personality and a touch of femininity to the outfit, and on top of that it will make a good contrast with more earthly colors such as burgundy or brown.

2. ADD A TOUCH OF RED
It has been said that red is the color of fall 2017. Now this can mean you can try out wearing a fire engine red coat to stand out from the crowd, or maybe some red heeled booties to tie your outfit together and add a pop of color. It’s not mandatory to make your entire outfit monochromatic if that isn’t your thing. If you feel uncomfortable with such flashy colors, you can try incorporating items in toned down red to start.
3. FAUX FUR COATS
Faux fur coats are everywhere at the moment. And the best part about them is, you can find them in a wide variety of colors, from baby pink to green and yellow. This means you can try and find one that you feel would fit nicely with other items from your wardrobe. Pairing it with mom jeans and a graphic white t-shirt will give off a very cool, vintage vibe or adding one to an all-black outfit with leather jeans and combat boots to achieve a more rocker chic look.
4. VELVET IS ALWAYS A GREAT CHOICE
Velvet items have been around for a while, but the trend hasn’t seemed yet to calm down, and that’s for good reason. This fabric can make an outfit look very classy, especially if you are striving for a more formal look. An off shoulder velvet dress or a pair of velvet ankle boots are a sure way to make an outfit memorable.
5. DON’T BE AFRAID TO USE SOME GLITTER
Probably each one of us has, deep down, a secret love for glitter. It’s shouldn’t be so secret anymore, as it’s encouraged now to add a little sparkle and shine to both your outfits and your make-up. During the day it can be a little more subtle such as wearing a jumper or a coat with glitter details on them, then switch it at night with some glitter covered booties or dresses. Pair that with a shiny highlight and you are guaranteed to make an impression at every party.
6. STYLE SOME SKIRTS
We all love our jeans, but there are so many new styles and choices of cute skirts that it would be a shame not to try some out. The most commonly seen now are metallic/gold, leather and suede lace-up skirts. Since it’s getting colder now, wearing them with pattern/simple tights or knee high socks is the way to go (and it looks adorable as well).
7. PLAID IS IN AGAIN
If you’re wearing a casual outfit and want to make it look more put together or formal, plaid patterns are your solution for this season. Maybe you’re late to school or a meeting and don’t have the time to think of an outfit, then try putting on a plaid coat/blazer or skirt. Look for the ones that have neutral colors and tones, as they are much easier to pair with other pieces from your wardrobe.
8. DEFINE YOUR WAIST WITH A WIDE BELT
Besides the usual belts that you sometimes wear with your jeans in case you notice they haven’t been fitting properly lately, try investing in a more statement, wide belt. From belts that have embroideries, rhinestones or huge buckles, add one that suits your tastes over your blazer and accentuate your waist. Wearing more layers or thicker clothes doesn’t mean you have to hide your waistline – belts are here to help you out.
9. HOODIES, MORE HOODIES
Feeling like you just want to throw on the most comfortable piece of clothing that you have and spend the rest of the day in it? Hoodies are perfect for that. They’re warm, comfortable and now more chic than ever (well, depending on how you choose to wear them). Pair them with a skirt or even better, some boots. The contrast between a sporty hoodie and some over the knee black boots is going to make your outfit more unique, and as surprising as this sounds, it looks very good. Hoodies can be used for more than just lounging around home, that’s for sure.

10. WIDE LEG AND DRESS PANTS
Does this mean saying goodbye to your skinny jeans after you invested so much in them? No, definitely not, but there’s no denying that wider leg pants are much more comfortable to wear. And if you happen to work in an office setting, using them or a pair or dress pants can help you be a little more creative if your outfit. Let’s face it, we want to be both chic and comfortable at the same time – and these pants might be the solution to that problem.
Keep in mind, you don’t need to follow any trend that you feel like would not reflect your style or who you are. Even though some of the trends that designers present to us may not be our cup of tea, the overall idea is to have fun and take some inspiration.
